It's a crap situation, and victim blaming doesn't help. We just happened to be lucky we like STEM. I know I was lucky enough to find my passion before college, then follow it, which luckily just happened to be a booming field. Sure we can look back and pat ourselves in the back. But really, it should just be for being in the right place at the right time. Anyway, if you researched what you were going to do, why not pursue a career with a lot less risk/more career growth opportunities? Say being a MD?
