Broadly speaking for 2015 ... San Jose is just a sprawling city with a pathetic downtown. Palo Alto and Mountain View are near Stanford U., govt. money and investors. San Francisco is where young dudes go to get laid. Beyond 2015, the price of real estate is so high that I don't know what the future holds. Any house from SF to MV is now over $1 million, and in PA and Los Altos above $2 million.
