If they aren't paying anything, my advice is to go to school somewhere where you don't have to rack up as much in student loans, unless it's a university that really has something special to offer (Stanford, MIT, etc.). If you want to work for a year or two or start a startup before you transfer, go for it. To show potential employers you are good at what you do, build something cool.
