Does this website not have a scrollbar?
- RIMR 11y agoYou know how you're never supposed to screw with the scroll elements in a web page? Syrah.co missed the memo... I guess everyone in the whole world has a scrollwheel and/or touchscreen. Screw anyone who doesn't, you can just read the top of the page...
- joshdickson 11y agoI wrote the post and made the site it's on. There are really people who don't have either of those? But really, we just don't have everything done yet, I wrote everything on my own. We'll fix it in an upcoming update, sorry for the issues.
- mindcrime 11y agoThere are really people who don't have either of those? Ummm, yeah, lots of them.
- joshdickson 11y agoit's a joke (a bad one?)
- Camillo 11y agoI have a trackpad and scrollbars hidden by default. It still sucks that I don't get the thumb showing up when I scroll. I have no way of knowing how far along I am.
- nfoz 11y ago> we just don't have everything done yet, I wrote everything on my own. Scrollbars work perfectly when you don't write anything.
- joshdickson 11y agoLook this is a pet project, we're experimenting with different things, I happen to like it the way it is. Last time we were on the top of HN earlier this month our font was too light; I liked it as is, but I was wrong. It changed. If we're wrong on this, it'll change too.
- Intermernet 11y agoI have a touch screen, a scroll wheel, arrow keys, space bar etc etc. I use the scroll bar as my first choice, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. Note to web-devs. If you modify scrolling, you're doing it wrong. I'd even go so far as to say browser-devs shouldn't allow scrolling to be modified. It's an OS feature, not an application feature.
- brusch64 11y agoFor me the worst thing was not to see where in the article I am and how long the article is. I am using the scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll the text.
- ____a 11y agoShouldn't the space bar work as well?
- RIMR 11y agoYes, and Alt+F4 will close whatever program your running, so we can just do away with the close button, right?
- djent 11y agoArrow keys? Firefox with vimperator (for hjkl)?
- PhantomGremlin 11y agoDoes this website not have a scrollbar? I was able to view this story without enabling Javascript by using a basic feature of Firefox. View -> Page Style -> No Style Fortunately this particular website's brain damage had a simple workaround. Some don't. And if they don't, I simply move on and forget about the site. Really. I mean it. If a site is too hard to read, it literally drops out of my memory. No regrets. Life is too short to tolerate brain-dead websites.
