I feel the author has chosen poor examples for illustrating 'bad code'. Does he really think so little of the id software team that they aren't aware of these things? There's no mention of the fact that in the real world, all the patterns and weird tricks there are won't save you from compromising on a perfect design to get stuff done & shipped.
- Narishma 11y agoI don't think it's a bad example. I remember John Carmack saying Doom 3 was their first C++ project and they weren't very familiar with the language and did some poor decisions on that.
- draw_down 11y agoGood people make mistakes too. It's important for all of us to accept criticism of our ideas and code without mistaking that for personal criticism.
