Settings.py Debugging Help
http://pastebin.com/index/RWt1mp7F ----
The error message I got was that there is an error on or before line 45
Looking through my code , can't seem to find any errors yet. All the parentheses seem to be in place too, this is weird ...
If anybody can spot anything, lemme know ... thanks ..
- greenyoda 11y agoHacker News isn't really intended for asking questions like this (see the Guidelines link at the bottom of the page - this post doesn't meet the "interesting" condition). Have you tried posting on StackOverflow?
- CaiGengYang 11y agoNo Choice ... I got banned on stack overflow for asking "low quality" questions. Forced to post here on Hackernews ...
- detaro 11y agoThen get a new stack overflow account and ask better questions instead of asking in the wrong places?
- CaiGengYang 11y agoWhat counts as "good quality" questions and who gets to decide what is "good" and what is "bad" ? Who are you to judge ?
- detaro 11y agoStack Overflow has relatively strict guidelines what they consider "good questions". I also don't agree with them on all counts, which is one of the reason why I'm not very active there (they see many questions I find interesting as out-of-scope, but that has been debated more than enough), but for specific questions they still are the best resource if one gives enough detail. If you don't like SO, maybe try a python/Django forum somewhere?
- dalke 11y agoWhere you will also get banned if you continue to ask low quality questions like this one. Reviewing your history, you have asked several other low quality questions already.
- krapp 11y ago>Hacker News isn't really intended for asking questions like this Isn't that what /ask is for?
- greenyoda 11y agoI haven't seen explicit guidelines for "Ask HN" anywhere, so I assume that it should still follow the general HN guidelines. For example, if you have a question that's relevant to HN, could be interesting to HN readers and could generate interesting discussion, it would be good for "Ask HN". The answer to one person's Python programming problem is not of general interest. If everyone posted questions like that, nobody would want to read HN anymore.
- krapp 11y agoI'm not entirely certain the guidelines should be the same, since the purpose of questions is to generate answers, not discussions. Otherwise, what's the point of having a separate section for questions? I agree, CaiGengYang's questions are pretty basic, but this question has one comment which answers it and an entire subthread discussing its relevance. Simply allowing it to be addressed by whomever wanted to address it then leaving it alone to sink into the mire would have caused less of a disturbance to HN than trying to enforce a cultural norm that not everyone agrees on. >If everyone posted questions like that, nobody would want to read HN anymore. Well, everyone already can post questions like that, yet almost no one does. I don't really see a credible slippery slope argument here.
- dalke 11y ago> a cultural norm that not everyone agrees on We are guests of ycombinator.com. They get to decide. We have influence, but there's no requirement for universal consensus. > yet almost no one does That's because those that do get flagged, and the accounts get banned.
- krapp 11y ago>That's because those that do get flagged, and the accounts get banned. I suspect that if they weren't there still wouldn't be enough to be more than a minor nuisance. There doesn't seem to be an incoming tide of terrible questions to stem to begin with, although I could of course be wrong. And even if there were, it's not as if many of the questions in that section are that high quality anyway. Should I use this or that language? What is the best "X"? And a few that aren't even questions but somehow wound up on the list.
- dalke 11y agoNothing appears wrong with that file. I can do "python settings.py" with both Python 2 and Python 3, without getting a SyntaxError. Without a stack trace, there's little more for anyone to go on. Also, there are better resources for Python/Django help than HN. See https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.8/faq/help/ https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.8/faq/help/ for pointers, which includes an IRC channel.
