This is an advertorial! Fascinating.
> WSJ. Custom Studios is a unit of The Wall Street Journal Advertising Department. The Wall Street Journal news organization was not involved in the creation of this content.
Very confused as to why this is getting voted up the front page of HN though.
- dang 11y agoWe invited prawn to repost it because it seemed like a high-quality story that missed getting attention the first time (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10268924 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10268924). Did we get that wrong? Certainly we sometimes do, as it's not physically possible to read all the articles. We don't care what department created it, only whether it's good content by HN standards, i.e. does it gratify intellectual curiosity.
- thieving_magpie 11y agoPaid for by Netflix to promote the show 'Narcos'. Strange. As for why it's voted up, doesn't seem all that odd to me. I'm looking at the front page and seeing a story about an aircraft carrier in ww2 and a story about coral in an aquarium making a man sick.
- dang 11y agoThe front page is supposed to have a diversity of stories.

- thieving_magpie 11y agoThat's what I'm saying.
- dang 11y agoAh, I might have misread you. Agreed!
- prawn 11y agoI submitted it as an example of the sort of advertising we'll start to see more and more of online. Will people block the ad when the ad is the content, etc.
