- ars 11y agoNah. A good president really only needs just one skill: Knowing how to hire good people. Other than that the president himself can be just a figurehead for entertainment. Trump clearly knows how to hire good people, so while I would not vote for him, I'm also not really worried about what will happen if he does win. If you think about it, the skillset needed to win an election, is not the same skillset you need for making good calculated decisions. So IMO we really should not be evaluating candidates on their personal qualifications, but rather on how good they are at hiring good people to do the real work.
- onedev 11y agoThis is a really interesting viewpoint that I'd not considered before.
- PhasmaFelis 11y agoYou're assuming that Trump's definition of "good" is the same as yours. Trump may know how to hire people who accomplish what Trump wants accomplished, but that doesn't mean the results will be good for you or anyone.
- mikeyouse 11y agoHe's also assuming that Trump will hire "good" people.. Is there evidence whatsoever that he possesses that skill? How would he evaluate what's "good" in areas that he literally knows nothing about?
- PhasmaFelis 11y agoThat, too. The fact that he's run four companies into bankruptcy in the recent past suggests that, if he does hire "good" people, he doesn't listen to them.
- Lewton 11y ago>Trump clearly knows how to hire good people What gave you that impression?
- ars 11y agoYou don't get to be that financially successful and own and manage that much property without knowing how to hire people. You don't do things yourself at his scale.
- dragonwriter 11y ago> A good president really only needs just one skill: Knowing how to hire good people. No, that's not true. A minimally competent president, at a bare minimum, needs to be able to hire good people -- who are experts in fields where he is not an expert, in many cases -- and to effectively manage those people, including resolving disputes between them (including in areas where he is less of a domain experts than they are.) While some of this can be delegated (e.g., to the White House Chief of Staff), ultimately, anyone to whom this is delegated is going to still need to be managed and be involved in disagreements that need to be resolved.
- cLeEOGPw 11y agoZhirinovsky would not even want to be a president precisely of this. He has established a comfortable spot of "entertaining borderline crazy bigoted warmonger" and that is a spot only possible while he is relatively not influential, at least in the eyes of the voters.
- bruceb 11y agoBoastful, bombastic, etc yes. But Trump was against the Iraq war while Hillary and Biden voted for it. Most of the Republicans running also supported it. Little evidence Trump is a war monger.
- mikeyouse 11y agoMany seem to leave out that he was against the Iraq war over a year after it started.. It didn't take a dove to figure out that it was a bad idea in the summer of 2004.. Hillary was on the record criticizing the handling of the war long before that.. One such example 6 months before the Donald ever said anything publicly; http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/04/21/iraq.hillary/ http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/04/21/iraq.hillary/ Biden was on a similar timeline (that was still faster than Trump) from May of 2004; http://www.nbcnews.com/id/4992558/ns/meet_the_press/t/transcript-may/ http://www.nbcnews.com/id/4992558/ns/meet_the_press/t/transc...
- aeris 11y agoAll of Zhirinovsky's property is outside of Russia, his children are too. There's no way he would push the red button.
