Not sure where you think I claimed that the only or chief use of firearms was to murder people. The main use of lead, asbestos and DDT were also not to cause health problems but they were still banned. OTOH firearms are overwhelmingly the most common way people get murdered in the US today, so to say they're 'rarely used to murder people' is to only look at the question from one side.
