- dang 11y agoThe title you're reading is what we changed it to. The submitted title was "This story is exclusively on Apple News until Tuesday". We changed it to an exact quote from the article and put it in quotation marks. p.s. Please don't use uppercase for emphasis: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html.
- kuschku 11y agoHow do we make text bold for emphasis? or should we just use UTF characters for that?
- alayne 11y agoPlease just write normally formatted sentences.
- kuschku 11y agoAs I answered to several other comments, this is not a helpful suggestion when most typographers suggest to use bold for emphasis of sans-serif fonts, as italic with sans-serif is less noticeable than 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱.

- kuschku 11y agoBut I want to have the typesetting ability to provide emphasis, distinction, quotes, like in a book. If I can’t get TeX or markdown, at least proper emphasis should be supported.
- desdiv 11y agoAccording to grammarians, you're supposed to use italics for emphasis in English.
- kuschku 11y agoEh, I read quite a few books that say the opposite > If you’re using a sans serif font, skip italic and use bold for emphasis. It’s not usually worth italicizing sans serif fonts—unlike serif fonts, which look quite different when italicized, most sans serif italic fonts just have a gentle slant that doesn’t stand out on the page. http://practicaltypography.com/bold-or-italic.html http://practicaltypography.com/bold-or-italic.html
- andreyf 11y agoFor emphasis there is italics, which you can make by adding asterisks around the word.
- p00b 11y agoWhich was explained in the cited link.
- kuschku 11y agoWhich does not help me when most typographers say to use 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱 for emphasis: http://practicaltypography.com/bold-or-italic.html http://practicaltypography.com/bold-or-italic.html
- kuschku 11y agoAnd if I want 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱 text? I know how to get italics. Most typographs disagree with using italics: > If you’re using a sans serif font, skip italic and use bold for emphasis. - tobico 11y agoHow do I make the dots on my "i"s into little love hearts to show how much I love the reader?
- chejazi 11y agoCome Tuesday it won't be an exact quote anymore.
- sjwright 11y agoBy that logic, all article titles should be written in the past tense.
