The only thing I'll say in this thread is that many of these responses are extremely similar to the arguments people gave me when I chose RoR as the framework for my startup instead of java back in 2005. That said, of course rails is viable for a new company. But the reality is, rails isn't the quantum leap of productivity over other options like it was 10 years ago.
