This. 100% this. You are selling the only resource that you have a limited supply of - your time. Asking for more money in exchange is a GOOD THING. I have NEVER had a raise offered to me. I've been a software engineer for 15 years now. I have always received raises though, because I asked for them, with leverage. I have climbed my way from getting hired to a 120 person company with a below median salary to making probably more than anyone in 6 months, by being good at what I do and asking or more in return. Employee/employer relations are always a fight for survival. Be the lion.
