But really if we can't get it together as a culture to eliminate perpetual copyright we should at least make a rule that if a work is not available (print or online) for 5 years then it is deemed abandoned and no longer under copyright. Available doesn't mean free. Our cultural heritage is a shared resource. It is not right for it to be locked away.
