They hope to prevent people from putting sensitive documents on unencrypted media that's easy to lose. There have been worms that spread through autorun and shell exploits, but I think that's a secondary concern.

... except I don't have access to sensitive information (because we have a decent separation between programmers and ops related to PII), and I do have full access to the entire internet, which is a great alternate insecure transfer medium.
