I'm pretty underwhelmed by the IoT myself, but I don't see what the author's goal is here. Is it not obvious that if things are too expensive or not that useful, folks won't buy it? Does the IoT really raise that many new issues concerning integration, usability, sustainability, and privacy? I haven't studied it, but my intuition is: not really.
