I think you hit the nail on the head: "Many institutions are looking for the politically correct person..." Politics so often dictates who companies hire and influence factors like gender, age and sex. Sad. Though being able to work with people matters and being nice/kind is a good quality to have, the focus on making sure the right backs are scratched as become so pervasive in the corporate world that it actually holds back progress.
