I made the same argument when arguing with a friend. It is impossible to not cross a safe country from Syria to the Balkans. Her answer was "They can go to Australia and still be refugees". I have also noticed similar sentiments in the people that happen to live in the better parts of the city where the refugees we are overran at the moment do not gather.
