How is Facebook able to do this if the passwords are hashed in a different manner? Are they storing passwords in plain text?

- burkemw3 11y agoThe other datasets could be storing passwords in plaintext, which could be hashed using Facebook's algorithm and then compared to what Facebook stores.
- shawn-furyan 11y agoYou don't need to cross-reference the passwords. Matching email addresses are sufficient to warn the user. The user should be able to verify whether or not the two accounts use the same password.
- bagels 11y agoThis was mostly about weakly hashed, or not hashed passwords. I realize that it may not apply to this particular dataset.
