The engineering job market is terrible in San Diego. It will probably get much worse once the Qualcomm layoffs hit. I suspect that it could be bad for a few years more. Most companies will not consider anyone unless they have a Master's Degree, or have some very specialized niche skill. I've been unemployed EE since November 2014, am 54, and look for work every week. I send out resumes but get no response. I've rewritten my resume a few times, and had a pro look it over. I really don't want to retire this early, but could do so if push came to shove.
