You are the most correct and relevant person to have commented so far. Adding consumer-level smarts to safety-critical devices, is a very very bad idea. I do like hard-wired one-triggers-all in residential settings, but my house has three floors and if I'm soundly asleep in the top floor, an alarm going off on the ground floor won't wake me up :)
