what exactly happens to the value of the currency after the fork? the number of Bitcoins in circulation effectively doubles?
- bhouston 11y agoNormally one side of the fork is considered to be official and the other is deprecated (made worthless.)
- ISL 11y agoSomething complicated will happen for an indeterminate but probably fairly short period of time, and then one fork will emerge as a winner. Nobody wants to buy unspendable BTC, so it's in almost everyone's interest to find consensus, even if it's tragedy-of-the-commons consensus, very quickly.
