A lot of automotive manufacturers are migrating to FlexRay (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlexRay https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlexRay) and Ethernet so hopefully they will use the extra bandwith to implement a bit more of message authentication to their protocol.
