This article misses the core reason people develop and contribute to open source; (1) to be able build something that never existed that the person thinks should exist and (2) to contribute to and a be a part of a community with a similar/same goal.
- agentsmith 11y agoright. its like how some doctors work in free clinics. Or how people do community service. For some its court mandated but a lot of people do it for personal reasons. Contributing to OSS is a lot like volunteering in your local church soup kitchen. If you're thinking of making money you don't really get it. When you contribute to OSS you are helping people be more productive and that benefits all of society.
