Could you get rid of the is_removed column again (by copying the delected row to the history table) so the main table again has only the currently active rows and simplify queries? (Moot if both tables are merged and views are used as suggested by others.) Is it common to name timestamps _on, like version_on? That doesn't seem very clear to me. What's the rationale?
